On October 21st started the second course on Healthy Ageing, Culture and Citizenship created by the Nursing School of Coimbra within the scope of the Senior University.
Until this moment, 18 students over 55 years old are enrolled in this course.
Therefore, the course has more subjects than last year, has an annual duration - rather than semestral like last year - and provides students with the possibility to attend only the subjects they want, according to their individual interests and availability.
The programme is based on nine subjects: Computing; Ageing; Society and Citizenship; Active Ageing Plus Health; Local and Regional History; English; Biology; Interpersonal Relationships; Health and Motricity; and Non-Conventional Therapeutics.
Many of these students were also enrolled in the first edition of the course, and they motivated some of their friends to participate in this academic year.
The main goal of the Senior University, which had the collaboration of the Polyvalent Socio-cultural Centre of São Martinho, is to allow "older adults", starting with the people who retired earlier, to remain useful, develop their self-esteem and acquire knowledge to continue participating in society.
