On December 11th, the Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC) retakes the initiative “Nursing: SEEING…is WANTING!”.
Once again, the Institution opens its doors to secondary students in order to disseminate the training offer and reveal the attractive concept of learning in laboratorial context offered by the School.
Therefore, 30 students from the Instituto Educativo de Souselas attending 12th grade are expected to visit the School.
In this open day, the ESEnfC suggests as a theme, and under the scope of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Sexual and Reproductive Rights.
The students who participate in this guided visit to the facilities of the ESEnfC (Campus B), from 2 p.m. to 4.pm, will be able, for example, to observe delivery simulations – perhaps some of them will even “behave” as nurses –, provide care to newborn babies (baby mannequins) and learn some basic life support techniques.
The laboratories of simulated practices of the ESEnfC allow students to stay as close to the reality as possible and rehearse techniques and procedures which they will then apply to patients in a hospital setting.
As a reference higher education institution, in permanent construction and updating, the ESEnfC, through this initiative, intends to make people aware of Nursing training as a professional project, helping secondary students to consciously create a life project.
During this academic year, there will be other visits to the School almost every month. The next visits are scheduled to happen on February 12th and 19th, 2009.
