«It is important to produce research, but it is not less important to disseminate it and have the necessary resources to do that». These are the words of the coordinator of the Health Sciences Research Unit: Nursing Domain (UICiSa:dE), professor Manuel Alves Rodrigues, regarding the creation of the Nursing Research Prize ESEnfC-Schering, aimed at rewarding the most interesting research in the area of autoimmune diseases.
The Research Prize ESEnfC-Schering, named like this since it has the exclusive sponsorship from Schering-Plough Farma, has the pecuniary amount of 7500 Euros.
This prize has been recently created by the Nursing School of Coimbra in collaboration with the Schering-Plough Farma and aims at promoting the research projects of Portuguese nurses who take care of patients with autoimmune diseases, as well as of nurses who are interested in studying and producing research concerning these pathologies.
The following are considered autoimmune diseases: Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis and ankylosing spondilitis.
The jury, who will be annually chosen by the researcher responsible for the prize (Professor Manuel Alves Rodrigues), will be composed of 5 members not belonging to the ESEnfC and the Schering-Plough Farma.
For the 2009 Prize (the first one to be awarded), the jury is composed of Nídia Salgueiro (nurse), Paulino de Sousa (professor of the Nursing School of Porto), Filomena Mendes (professor of the Nursing School of Lisbon), Manuela Ferreira (professor of the Higher Health School of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu) and Maria dos Anjos Dixe (professor of the Higher Health School of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria).
Professor will be pleased if the prize is awarded, a sign that it will have the required scientific quality.
«In the case of existing several projects, the top 5 will be published in a separate reprint of the Journal Referência, an opportunity of dissemination which can also be considered a prize », as the researcher of the ESEnfC points out.
The coordinator of the UICiSa:dE considers that nursing research «is an area where we need to struggle to reach higher goals».
The regulation of the Research Prize ESEnfC-Schering 2009 is available at the School’s Web page.
