Workshop I - Reading the stadistics analysis results: from the symbols to the significances   -   Campus A - Sala Maior -1st floor

Maximum Limit  of Registrations: 40

Deepen the meaning of the critical appreciation’s need of the significances attributed to the statistics results in which the investigation conclusions are based.

The statistics has a vast collection of tools and techniques developed with the aim of obtaining relevant information from the numeric expressions. The problem is that the learning of the use of those tools and techniques in the human and social sciences is frequently accomplish in a shortly time, in an intensive way and presently very supported in informatics  programs, as it happens with the SPSS. In sequence of this kind of training, it is clear that we stay with an idea very normalized and external of the analytic processes which the data are submitted and, therefore, with an insufficient capacity of reading the results to appreciate his significances and the effective relevance as empiric answers or proves related with the investigation questions and/or hypotheses.

Maximum Limit of Registrations: 40

The dissemination of research results is one of the most significant steps of the scientific activity. It can be done particularly through the participation in scientific events or writing/publishing of papers in journals of reference. The writing of a scientific paper follows a set of rules, a structure and a language of its own, which can be improved and adapted to the editorial criteria of the targeted journals.

In this workshop, we will explore the issues related to the writing of scientific papers, the strategies used to adapt the paper to the means of dissemination (journal) according to the topic under analysis, the knowledge produced and the target groups; the recommendations for the authors, the editorial criteria; and the criteria underlying the quality (structural characteristics and scientific discourse) of the papers which will be submitted.
