The Minister of Health of Sao Tome and Principe, Dr. Arlindo Vicente de Assunção Carvalho, has visited the ESEnfC to thank the collaboration work being developed in favour of the current and future health professionals of his country and to launch the basis for an extension of this help.
After the project now initiated in Cape Verde, who knows if, in the near future, the ESEnfC will have the conditions to replicate the same type of collaboration (teachers' mobility) aiming at the beginning of a new Licentiate Nursing Degree in one more Portuguese-speaking African country.
In this sense, the Minister of Health invited the President of the Directing Board of the ESEnfC, Professora Maria da Conceição Bento, to visit Sao Tome.
In parallel, the Minister of Health was invited to be a member of the commission of honour of the Iberoamerican and Portuguese-Speaking Countries´ Research Congress in Nursing that will take place in November 2009.
In this second visit to the ESEnfC, in a period of 8 months, the minister Arlindo Vicente de Assunção Carvalho was able to contact some of his compatriots undergoing training at the Nursing School of Coimbra: two nurses attending specialisation modules (necessary to obtain the degree of licentiate) and four students attending the 1st year of the Nursing Degree.
The Minister, who had already mentioned in February to be positively surprised with the facilities of the ESEnfC, visited the new laboratories of Campus A - still partially equipped - and the new work space of the Research Unit, as well as the student residence.
Arlindo Vicente de Assunção Carvalho has a degree in Medicine (General Clinic) and has also attended the Course in Tropical Epidemiology and a Master's degree in Public Health, in the area of Endemic Diseases, Environment and Society.
