The Postgraduate Specialization Degree in Rehabilitation Nursing (CPLEER), whose study plan is published in Decree No. 184/2016 of June 11th, aims at training nurses by providing them skills, knowledge, and abilities to deliver care specific to Rehabilitation Nursing

At the end of study cycle, students are expected to be able to:
-Identify/diagnose, design, implement, and assess the results of rehabilitation nursing care in people with special needs, throughout their life cycle, in every practice setting, optimizing their functions, skills, or potential;
-Integrate knowledge, address complex issues and find solutions or make decisions within situations involving professional, ethical, and social consequences and responsibilities, and act scientifically by developing research practices in the field of rehabilitation nursing;
-Analyze issues related to disability, restricted activities, and limited participation in the current society, taking into account the development and implementation of autonomous and multidisciplinary interventions to promote social reintegration and the exercise of citizenship, depending on the social, political, and economic framework;
-Take responsibility for the education/training of nurses and other health professionals at the care unit, and ensure/participate in the general and specialized nursing care delivery;
-Engage in policy-making, planning, and management of care and health resources;
-Provide technical and scientific opinions within the context of rehabilitation nursing.

The Postgraduate Specialization Degree in Rehabilitation Nursing aims at providing nurses with the competencies necessary to their full professional practice in the field of Rehabilitation Nursing in accordance to the competencies established in regulations no. 122/2011 and 125/2011, both of February 18th. In this sense, at the end of the study cycle, nurses are expected to demonstrate the following competencies:
-Design and develop rehabilitation nursing intervention plans/programs aimed at the promotion of the client’s self-management skills, performance of self-care and activities of daily living during the processes of health/illness and disability processes;
-Identify, design, implement, and assess individual and differentiated nursing care which, considering body functions and systems that restrict activities or limit participation, promote the clients’ capacity and optimize their functioning aimed at their reintegration in the family and society and exercise of citizenship;
-Use and mobilize evidence-based knowledge and methods in the design, planning, implementation, and assessment of rehabilitation care in people with altered functionality, namely at the level of motor, sensorial, cognitive, and cardiopulmonary skills, bladder and bowel elimination, feeding and sexuality;
-Show leadership skills in nursing care management at the units and institutions regarding rehabilitation nursing care;
-Show planning and organizational skills for in-service training and continuous improvement of nursing and health care, namely through the implementation and promotion of research activities in the teams.

The study cycle has 90 ECTS and is organized into three semesters: the first two semesters correspond to the theoretical, theoretical-practical, and practical components; the third semester corresponds to the component of clinical teaching
The study plan complies with Regulations No. 122/2011 and No. 125/2011 and follows the matrix design by the Ordem dos Enfermeiros on: the topics addressed in Postgraduate Specialization Degrees in Nursing and CPLEERs; required internships and corresponding minimum duration; minimum duration of the study cycle; and the Professional Title of nurses in charge of internships and CPLEER coordinators.

The Postgraduate Specialization Degree in Rehabilitation Nursing is organized and managed by the SPU of Rehabilitation Nursing of ESEnfC. However, to ensure high quality and topicality, the following lecturers will be invited to participate:
-Teachers from other scientific-pedagogical units of ESEnfC;
-Nurses specialist in rehabilitation nursing practicing in multiple clinical settings and with recognized whose in the specialty area;
-Nurse specialists in other areas, whose contribution is relevant to the study cycle;
-Other health professionals whose contribution adds value to trainees’ scientific development.
