ARSim2Care – Application of augmented reality in clinical simulation

Project Summary

Augmented Reality (AR) is one of the technologies with the greatest potential for use in many areas. It consists of combining virtual images and real-world images. Thus, AR complements or “augments” the real world with virtual content, but does not replace it completely, as it is in the case of virtual reality. It can be used in mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets or AR glasses, using “markers” that the device detects on site.

The main objective of this project is the development of AR software which, combined with anatomical models, facilitate the student’s acquisition of technical skills to perform invasive clinical procedures. The project will be addressed at na European level because the training of technical skills is a common need, which reinforces the common problema and the search for solutions. With the purpose of ensuring the development of a tool adjusted to all application contexts, the project will be designed within the scope of an European collaboration. Therefore, the following software will be developed: orotracheal intubation; aspiration of secretions via a tracheostomy tube; insertion of a nasogastric tube; intramuscular; arterial blood sampling, which will be adapted to the several countries and languages.
