Be a Nurse for a day

On May 14, the Nursing School of Coimbra opened its doors to dozens of secondary students.

In this visit to the facilities and laboratories of the ESEnfC, the students from Cantanhede were able to see delivery simulations, provide care to newborns (baby mannequins) and learn techniques of basic life support.

With this initiative, within the scope of the School policies of openness to the exterior, the School intends to divulge the training offer, revealing, at the same time, the attractiveness of laboratorial teaching.

Several techniques were demonstrated with the collaboration of the School students: the lateral safety position, the procedures to be adopted in the case of a cardiorespiratory arrest, and the techniques for intravenous punctures.

This guided visit allowed students who are considering a career in the health area to get in touch with the ESEnfC and, perhaps, chose our institution for future higher education studies.

In the welcoming session, the President of the Directing Board, Professora Conceição Bento, explained that nurses not only help individuals and families in the normal contexts during the life cycle but also in situations of crisis.

Professors Conceição Bento emphasized that the School has the best laboratories for Nursing teaching in the country, a students’ residence (capable of welcoming and integrating displaced students) and leisure, sport and study facilities.
