Teachers of the ESEnfC integrated in an European project of child nutritional vigilance

Two teachers of the Nursing School of Coimbra - Armando Silva and Marina Montezuma – examined several 1st-year students of 13 primary schools of the Centre region. They measured the weight and height of children aged between 6 and 8 years, within the scope of the European project of child nutritional vigilance of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

In Portugal, the study has the collaboration of the Platform Against Obesity of the General Directorate of Health, which is gathering, in a systematic way, the measures of physical growth on 1st-year children of Portuguese basic education.

The project is being carried out, simultaneously, in 17 countries and, in Portugal, 190 schools were selected.

The data gathered will be analysed by the General Directorate of Health and the WHO.
