On November 28th, the elected officers took office as members of the General Board of the Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC).

Clarinda Cruzeiro, Maria Neto, Maria Luísa Pinto Coelho, Aida Mendes, Manuel Rodrigues, Maria Paula Cordeiro, Dulce Galvão, Jorge Apóstolo, Maria Clara Amado Apóstolo Ventura, Maria Teresa Tanqueiro, Manuel Augusto Mariz, Marília Neves, Alberto Barata Gonçalves Cavaleiro and José Carlos Martins represent the officers of the teaching staff elected on November 24th to this new institutional body of governance.
On this same date, João Nuno Oliveira was elected as representative of the non-teaching staff and Ana Mafalda Pereira Ribeiro Fernandes, Ana Catarina Alves Gonçalves and Rui Pedro Dinis Borges as representatives of the student body.
The General Board of the ESEnfC is composed of 25 members (14 representatives of the teachers and/or researchers, 3 representatives of the students, 1 representative of the non-teaching staff and 7 external personalities of recognised merit not belonging to the institution, but with relevant knowledge and experience to the School).
As to the external personalities, they are coopted by all the remaining members of the General Board by an absolute majority and based on proposals signed by at least a third of those members.
Among the competencies of the General Board are the election of the President of the School, the evaluation of the actions of the President of the School and the Management Board and the proposal of initiatives considered necessary for the good functioning of the Institution.
Under a proposal of the President of the School, the General Board should, for example, approve the budget proposal and the annual consolidated accounts, establish students’ fees and approve the action plan for the four-year period of the term of office of the President of the ESEnfC.
The General Board should also approve the participation of the School in consortiums created on the initiative of its members or the proposal of the requirement on the transformation of the ESEnfC into a public higher education institution, of foundational nature
The term of office of the members of the General Board is four years, with the exception of the students, which is two years.
In this ceremony on November 28th, the student ombudsman took office. This new body of the ESEnfC will operate in articulation with the Student Association and the bodies and services of the School, namely the Pedagogical Board.
Professor João Franco was elected by the students as the Student Ombudsman and his term of office will be two years.
The student ombudsman will analyse the complaints and protests of the students, and in relevant cases, he or she will utter the recommendations to the competent bodies.
He will also protect the interests of the students, namely within the scope of the pedagogical activity and of the school social services.
