The President of the Directing Board of the Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC), Professor Maria da Conceição Bento, argued that there is a need for predictive studies in the area of wound treatment, which support the clinical practices of health professionals.
In the opening of the Meeting on Wounds…from prevention to treatment”, Professor Maria da Conceição Bento, despite stating that a lot of work has been developed in this field, mentioned that “we do not have enough scientific data to support the nurse’s decision”.
“Nursing clinical practice increasingly needs to be based on scientific data”, stated Professor Maria Conceição Bento, challenging the nurses attending the meeting to develop, in collaboration with the ESEnfC, research projects with that purpose.
Today, the first day of activities in 2009, the auditorium of Campus A was full. Among students and nurses, 320 people attended the Meeting. “This means that nurses are interested in continuous training and in providing better responses to the health needs”, also stated the President of the Directing Board of the ESEnfC.
The following were the themes suggested for this Meeting: “The importance of care provision in the treatment of wounds”, “Chronic wounds – multidisciplinary approach in prevention and treatment”, “Ambulatory surgery: an emerging reality” and “Natural methods for the treatment of wounds”.
The Meeting was orgaised by Professors Fátima Luzio, Nazaré Cerejo, Luís Sarnadas, Virgílio Conceição, Rui Baptista and Luís Paiva and nurse Verónica Coutinho.
