Postgraduate Specialization Degree in Rehabilitation Nursing

1-To mobilise/Use scientific knowledge for decision-making
2-To acquire technical skills in respiratory kinesiotherapy
3-To develop rehabilitation nursing care skills focused on the needs of the users and families/caregivers in the health and illness process transition of the respiratory  systems, using the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP)
4-To prepare nursing diagnoses, on paper, taking into account the needs/changes identified
5-To prescribe/perform respiratory technical exercises
6-To measure the impact of the prescribed interventions on people/families/caregivers

Use the knowledge acquired in the theoretical, theoretical-practical and practical classes.
-International Classification for Nursing Practice
-Respiratory techniques based on lung volume and capacity, for the respiratory function re-education/education
-Respiratory re-education, by the dissociation of the ventilatory times
-Exercises/Techniques to re-educate and manage physical education
-Positions to optimise ventilation and secretion drainage
-Non-invasive Ventilation (NIV)
-Respiratory Kinesiotherapy Exercises/Therapies
-Exercises/Techniques to tone respiratory muscles
-Exercises/Techniques to correct posture
-Exercises, techniques, apparatus and devices for cleaning airways
-Assisted cough techniques and management
-Percussion techniques and thoracic vibration
-Measuring instruments and scales to evaluate the functional and respiratory capacity of the patient, namely, (Borg, 7 minute walk,…)

Objectives 1, 3, 4 and 5 - Use of knowledge acquired in the theoretical and theoretical-practical classes, for the diagnoses interventions and for supporting and assisting and in decision-making
-Collect information and transform it into relevant data
-Identification of the needs of people at risk or with respiratory changes, as well as for caregivers
-Prepare and Execute nursing care plans, particularly rehabilitation

The internship is at the Healthcare Unit, where rehabilitation nursing care practices are developed for people with respiratory changes or at risk. Based on the tutorial teaching model involving: the students, the teacher and the tutor, who has to be a nurse specialised in rehabilitation nursing.
The school teacher is responsible for guidance and evaluation, but the tutor collaborates throughout the students' teaching/learning process. This process is managed by reflection and discussion of clinical practices in the provision of health care, integrating diagnostic intervention, planning, execution and assessment of the results of the interventions of students.
The evaluation process will consider the learning elements obtained during the internship, on an ongoing basis, based on the assessment parameters, objectives, proposed activities and documents prepared.

The teacher, along with the nurse tutor, plans and develops learning strategies and clinical supervision, taking into account the recommended objectives for the internship. The students are involved by becoming aware of their active role in defining their learning. Despite the continuous monitoring of learning, it is essential for the team members meet three times, to facilitate and monitor the process:
-The first meeting, at the beginning of the internship, aims to clarify the students on the learning objectives, the resources and capabilities, and potential in the clinical context, and on the methodologies and guidance strategies, monitoring and assessment;
-The second meeting should occur approximately halfway through the internship, aiming to identify difficulties or constraints in the learning/teaching process, as well as to define strategies to implement by the end of this learning period. It should be of an essentially formative nature;
-The last meeting consists of a meeting at the end of the internship, to assess the critical reflection of learning and qualitatively evaluate the learning achieved by the student, bearing in mind the recommended objectives.
