ESEnfC works out a Strategic Plan for the next four years

The Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC) is engaged in the elaboration of the Strategic Plan 2009-2013, an instrument which will help it project itself as a Higher Education institution of renown at the national and international level.

In this task which involves representatives of the whole School community, the ESEnfC is assisted by Joan Cortadellas, the technical director of the UNESCO Chair in University Management of the University of Cataluna.

It is also assisted by public characters of the surrounding community: Doutor Domingos Fernandes (former Secretary of State of the Educational Administration in the XIV Constitutional Government lead by Engenheiro António Guterres and professor of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Lisbon, with a curriculum closely linked to research and teaching, and to the influence of assessment in the contexts of learning and teaching), António Manuel Oliveira, RN (President of the Regional Section of the Centre of the Portuguese Nursing Council) and Sérgio Gomes, RN (Chief Nursing Officer, appointed member to provide specialised counselling in Nursing to the members of the Government and help to develop, implement and assess the Healthcare policy, within the scope of strategies and goals established for the Nursing field).

Up to now the mission, values and strategic axes have been redefined and several work sessions organised, in order to define actions to be developed within the scope of this ambitious Strategic Plan, true to the motto "Shaping the Future Together".

Some of the goals to be achieved by 2013 are related to the improvement of the teacher training and promotion of the collaboration with Health and Higher Education institutions; the creation of a leading centre in production networks, the dissemination and application of nursing knowledge; or the promotion of recognition an demand at the international level.

Other lines of action of the ESEnfC are to encourage the global training of students and the personal and professional realisation of those who work at the School and to consolidate the consultancy services.

Six axes of intervention have been defined: "Training, Research, Development and Innovation"; "School Community"; "Administration, Management, Development and Consolidation"; "Provision of Services to the Community" and "Internationalisation and Cooperation".

The planning commission of the Strategic Plan is composed of 29 members, mainly teachers, but also students and non-teaching staff members. However, the number of participants in this amplified discussion is much higher, since there are many other participants engaged in the work sessions.
