Nursing School of Coimbra evaluated by the EUA

The Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC) started being evaluated by the European University Association (EUA).

During 19th and 20th June 2008, the international experts met with the management bodies, the members of the teaching staff and the non-teaching staff, the students and the external partners of the ESEnfC.

This is considered an important moment for the development and recognition of the institution at an international level.

In this first visit, the experts came to know the reality of the ESEnfC and notice the importance of the self-evaluation report sent by the School to the EUA.

This report is the result of 11 work meetings, in which about 100 peoplewere involved: ten members of the internal evaluation committee of the ESEnfC, 79 other teachers, 29 non-teaching staff members and 17 students.

The strong points, the weak points, the threats and the opportunities were identified.

A second visit will be scheduled to September/October, according to the experts' agenda and to the needs for further explanation.

Between October and December, the EUA team shall, then, elaborate a report, giving suggestions to the increase the quality of the School.

The ESEnfC was one of the ten institutions selected by the Directorate-General of Higher Education for the co-financing of the volunteer evaluation programme by the EUA in 2008.

As a non-integrated higher education institution, it is the first Nursing School to be evaluated by the EUA in Portugal and in Europe.

The experts will analyse issues like governance, financial resources, the capacity of internationalisation and the access rules.

The international evaluation team is composed of Professors Winfried B. Müller (Austria), Dionyssis Kladis (Greece) and Mette Karoliussen (Norway), as well as the student Sanja Brus (Slovenia).
