Five students of the 2nd year of the Licentiate Degree Course in Nursing have recently been distinguished for the quality of their work presented at scientific events, in collaboration with Professor Dr. João Graveto, pedagogical assistant of the class of the distinguished students.
These papers were a result of the students' efforts in acknowledging the relevance of the work developed in the curricular unit of Project of Personal Development II.
Diana Catarina Ferreira de Campos was awarded the first prize for the Best Free Paper for the paper "Role of the Nurse and Involvement of the Client in the Clinical Decision Process" in the I Conference on Surgical Nursing in Urgency, which took place in Vila do Conde, on 29th and 30th May.
This paper stood out against the several free papers presented at the conference and was unanimously chosen by the jury and many of the participants.
Ana Rita Machado and Ana Sofia Sineiro received an Honourable Mention for the poster "Communication and (in)formation of bad news to oncology patients: role of the nurse", presented at the Nursing Symposium (topic Death and Communication of Bad News), which took place in the auditorium of the Nursing School of Lisbon, Campus Ravara, on 18th and 19th April.
Other students are preparing themselves for participating in further scientific events, along with their pedagogical assistants, and for publishing some of the papers of scientific review (developed within the scope of the curricular unit) in journals of reference in Nursing.
This challenge has been quite fulfilling for the students. Besides the distinctions, the participation in the scientific events has developed the academic and professional training of the future nurses. Moreover, it may also be seen as a further means to open doors for students in the labour market.
